What hospital will the procedure be performed at?

Your surgery will be performed at Medicana Atakoy Hospital in Istanbul with world recognised surgeons who actively participate on numerous national and international congresses and symposiums on obesity and metabolic surgery.

How many staff will escort each travel group?

A minimum of two staff will escort each group. All staff are experienced in escorting medical tourism groups with 45 trips between them.

How long can I expect to be away from New Zealand?

You can expect to be away 10 - 11 days.

Why travel as a part of a group?

There are many benefits to travelling as a part of a group. Turkey has a long travel time and it is not always possible for you to take a support partner with you due to time constraints and financial viability. By travelling to a foreign country in a group you will not be alone. You will be supported by experienced staff, have a team to advocate for you, make friends, and embark on your journey with like minded individuals. Our trips are fun, there's no need to go alone!

If I don't want to travel as part of a group, can Shape Up co-ordinate my surgery?

Absolutely! Speak to one of our staff and they will be more than happy to assist you with your planning.

Is there an option to travel in a private group of friends / family?

We appreciate that sometimes a group of friends or family members wish to travel in their own group and have options available to travel with you. People are encouraged to know that

What is the follow up care provided in my package?

Guidance from a nutritionist is included in your package. We also have the privilege of working with New Zealand based Bariatric Life Coach - Sonia McIndoe. Sonia herself has had bariatric surgery, understands the highs and lows, and has successfully maintained her weightloss for in excess of 9 years. Her practical approach to coaching is an integral part of the long term success of your journey.

Do I need insurance?

Surgical insurance is worth considering, this is an individual decision, we find around 50% of clients choose to invest in this while others choose not to.  Medical insurance is available through Global Protective Solutions.

Where does my companion stay while I am in hospital?

Your companion will stay with you at hospital in your room. At an additional cost they have the option to stay at the hotel.

Will there be time available for sightseeing and shopping?

Absolutely! We want to encourage all clients to experience the richness of the culture of Istanbul! Istanbul is a remarkable place to visit. Shape Up also include a sightseeing tour in their packages.

What airlines are used for my flights?

Shape Up choose to fly with Air New Zealand, Qatar Airlines and Emirates and their affiliated partners. The flight time is considerable and we want you to be assured of comfort and professionalism. The selected airline each tour may change subject to availability however  it will be one of the above mentioned airlines.
